More than a century ago, George Hulett looked at one of America's biggest industrial challenges and saw a better way.
Steel mills across the Great Lakes depended on massive quantities of iron ore. Getting that raw material from ship to shore was slow, dangerous, backbreaking work.
Then came the Hulett unloader.
These enormous machines reached deep into the holds of Great Lakes freighters and moved tons of iron ore at a time. That ore would go on to become steel. The steel used to build skyscrapers, bridges, railroads, factories, automobiles, and much of modern America.
The Hulett didn't make the steel.
It helped get the right material to the right place so its potential could be realized.
That idea inspired us.
